Apple is like my the most favourite fruit!I can have them anytime of the season. I remember when my father was posted in Himachal Pradesh we had Apple tress growing all around us. And during the winters we literally used to pluck apples from their trees and have them straight away! What a fun feeling that was really !!! My mom used to make fresh apple juice and we loved the added touch of cinnamon in it. This love for the combo of Apple and cinnamon developed further as i grew and thus Apple pies and Apple Crumble became one of my favourite desserts. and of course it's a no hidden truth that apple and Cinnamon are a match made in heaven, Sigh!
Making apple crumble is super easy (less tedious than a Pie) but since it's Navratras and we have food restrictions so i thought why not make Apple Halwa instead! It requires no Flour and tastes equally yumm! so without further ado, let me share the recipe and you guys can thank me later!
6 Apples (peeled and diced)
2 tbsp Butter
1 Tsp Cinnamon Powder
0.5 Tsp Nutmeg
1 Tsp Vanilla Essence
5 Tbsp Sugar
1 Tbsp water
2 tbsp Peeled & Chopped Almond + Pistachios
Take a saucepan and add butter to it, let it melt. Now add the diced apples and cook them for a couple of minutes. Once they start getting soft add water . Add Sugar , cinnamon and nutmeg after 2 minutes. Let it cook uncovered on low heat. You can break down the apples using a spoon or let it be. Continue to cook till the sugar caramelises along with the apples. Be careful not to burn it so continue stirring. Now add vanilla essence and mix.Once the mixture looks cooked remove the saucepan from heat. Now add the chopped Almonds and Pistachios to mix or as garnish. Serve warm.
