I Wore A Jacket With My Saree And This Is How It Turned Out!

By

I have been in this business of blogging for almost 5 years now and have been forecasting trends, curating wedding inspired fashion and so much more. While I have always advocated the need of re-inventing desi fashion, I finally decided to do something that I haven’t done before. Okay, before you begin judging me, I haven’t done anything that was OMGaaaaash but I finally decided to give one trend a try – pairing jacket with an embroidered saree. Everyone has written about tis trend and how one can add more sass to a saree by layering a jacket on top, so instead of wearing a traditional looking jacket/layer, I opted for a bomber jacket in a bright coral colour by Label Anu P.D.

One thing about saree is that it can become an excellent conversation starter at a party with the way it has been draped or styled. Being such a versatile piece, the saree has transformed itself and found its own niche in the fashion industry. Sonam Kapoor is one actor who doesn’t shy away from experimenting with her saree styles and has always given us #SareeGoals at all times.

I had always read about the six yard becoming a Indo-modern ensemble and that’s why I decided to give it a shot with a bomber jacket. I was slightly apprehensive to wear my mum’s royal looking, Kashmiri embroidered saree with a bright jacket but I did it only to realize that it works really well. The trigger for this style was designer Anu P.D.’s Instagram post that featured a modern Indian woman wearing a saree with jacket, looking edgy to every bit (take a look here). I paired the black embroidered saree with this red textured bomber jacket and added a handcrafted versatile collar from Anu’s label again.

A bomber jacket with the saree is a vaguely bold move but worth the risk. It is a style that can be worn by any woman with any kind of body shape and style. The jacket not only helps in layering but also gives you both style and comfort. I realized that it’s a must-do winter trend and can be done for a perfect monsoon wedding as well. This is a great style for a curvy woman and if you add a waist belt to your jacket saree style then you’ll end up with a beautiful silhouette. The trick is to get your pallu right and with the jacket that’s easily achievable.

I love this style for it makes me feel fierce, trendy and elegant at the very same time. Accessorizing is totally your calling and adding desi accessories like the nath, mang tikka can add to your edginess. I purposefully wore a traditional hand embroidered saree to see if this style worked with just the modern drapes but I guess I am happy with the result.

What do you guys think?
